Extreme DUI Leads in Utah: Why They Get Their Own Category

Utah treats a DUI with a breath or blood alcohol result of .16 or higher as an "extreme" DUI, with a higher mandatory jail minimum and supervised probation. Revenue Spark gives those cases their own category, so you can advertise to them differently from an ordinary DUI.

What counts as an extreme DUI in Utah?

According to the state's DUI statutory overview, an extreme DUI is any of these:

  • A blood or breath alcohol result of .16 or higher.
  • A result of .05 or higher plus any measurable controlled substance.
  • A combination of two or more controlled substances.

For a first conviction the overview lists a mandatory jail sentence of at least 5 days (or 2 days plus 30 days of electronic home confinement), against 2 days for an ordinary first DUI, and it requires supervised probation. Check the current statute before relying on any number: penalties and thresholds change.

Why advertise to an extreme DUI differently?

The person is facing more. A higher mandatory minimum and supervised probation raise the stakes, so a message that treats the case seriously, and does not read like a generic ticket letter, tends to land better. It also tends to be a higher-value case. How DUI attorneys generate more clients covers what DUI messaging should acknowledge, and matching your letter to the charge explains why one letter does not fit every charge.

How does Revenue Spark handle it?

"Extreme" is a sentencing tier, not a separate offense, so a court's charge text does not always say it. When it does, we put the lead in its own Extreme DUI category instead of plain DUI. If you are subscribed to DUI, you receive extreme DUI leads too, so nothing is lost, and you can upload a different postcard or letter for that category on your Templates page.

Pair it with the ZIP-code marker and you can send your strongest piece to the cases most able to pay: higher-income ZIP codes for attorney mail. The wider reasons we do this are in why Revenue Spark.
