Low-Volume Civil Case Types in Utah Courts

Employment, defamation, and interpleader cases are filed in Utah courts, but only a few a week. They are part of civil litigation leads, yet you should not expect many. In one sample week we counted single-digit numbers of each. Here is what the court says they are and what we saw.

What are they?

From the court's case type list: an interpleader is "a case brought by a third party to have a court determine ownership rights of rival claimants to money or property." Employment, sexual harassment, wrongful termination, and defamation are separate case types in the court's dropdown.

How many did we see?

In our own review of one sample week (September 28 to October 2, 2026): wrongful termination and interpleader about one case each, defamation about three, and sexual harassment none. We did not search the employment discrimination type. Those are our observations of one week, not published statistics, and numbers this small vary a lot.

Why include them?

A single employment or defamation case can be a substantial matter, and the plaintiff or defendant without a lawyer is a good prospect. But with so few, a subscription built only on these types would see little. They are best as a supplement to contracts and small claims.

What should you check?

Look at the attorney column on each lead. We have not reviewed what these filings show beyond their case types, so treat the first ones as a test.

Where do they fit?
